20 fan token sulla Chiliz Chain: come il calcio sta diventando un mercato on-chain

Fan tokens have come a long way from being a niche experiment on Socios.com to becoming fully-fledged on-chain assets. What began as ‘a badge of your favourite club in your wallet’ has, by 2026, evolved into a tradable digital asset class with its own infrastructure – DEXs, liquidity pools and the emerging SportFi ecosystem. Some Chiliz fan tokens now operate not only on the blockchain of the same name, but also on Solana and Base, whilst the CAP-20 standard has made them compatible with familiar DeFi tools.

The ecosystem is constantly evolving. Between 2025 and 2026, all fan tokens gradually transitioned to decimal contracts, Binance carried out a contract swap for key tokens, and new national tokens were launched ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Let’s take a look at exactly what has changed – and why this is important not only for fans, but also for the crypto market as a whole.

What fan tokens actually are

Crypto fan tokens are CAP-20 utility tokens issued on the Chiliz Chain blockchain and linked to a specific sports organisation. Their primary function is utilitarian rather than financial: holders gain the right to vote in club polls (choosing kit designs, stadium music, and man of the match), as well as access to VIP experiences, exclusive rewards and private events.

It is important to make a clear distinction: fan tokens are not club shares. They do not confer a stake in the capital, do not pay dividends and do not grant voting rights in the management of the organisation. In March 2026, the SEC and CFTC officially recognised fan tokens as digital engagement tools rather than securities. Tokenised shares in clubs are a separate product, known as Equity Tokens, which Socios plans to issue via Securitize. The first issues have been announced for the EU market, though exact dates have not yet been specified. Fan Tokens and Equity Tokens are different instruments with different legal statuses.

Migration to decimal contracts: what has changed

In 2025–2026, football crypto tokens underwent a large-scale migration: from 0 decimal places to the 18-digit CAP-20 standard. This may sound like a technical detail, but in practice it has fundamentally changed the way tokens are traded and used.

Before the migration, a single token was the minimum trading unit – it was not possible to buy 0.5 PSG or sell 0.3 JUV. This limited trading flexibility, made it difficult to create liquidity pools on DEXs, and rendered the tokens poorly compatible with DeFi protocols, which require fractional values. Following the migration, fan tokens behave like standard crypto-assets: precise pricing to one decimal place, fine-grained liquidity and compatibility with automated market makers.

Binance carried out a contract swap on 11 May 2026 for eight key tokens – ACM, ASR, ATM, BAR, CITY, JUV, OG and PSG. The old contracts were replaced with new ones featuring 18 decimal places, and users’ balances were updated automatically. For the remaining tokens, the migration took place in stages throughout 2026.

Key tokens: the ecosystem portfolio

Football fan tokens on the Chiliz Chain fall into three categories – clubs, national teams and esports. Let’s look at key examples from each category, without listing every token individually.

Club giants. PSG, BAR, JUV, CITY, AFC, ACM and INTER are the ecosystem’s largest by market capitalisation and most liquid tokens. The PSG fan token has a market capitalisation of around $8 million, Barcelona’s is around $8 million, and Manchester City’s is around $5.2 million. This is a far cry from the peak values of 2021 (PSG reached $61 million, CITY – $36 million), but it is precisely these tokens that drive the bulk of trading volume and liquidity on DEXs and CEXs.

National teams. ARG, POR, SPAIN and ITA – a separate category linked not to clubs but to national teams. ARG – the token of the 2022 World Cup champions and 2026 World Cup finalists: following their semi-final victory over England, it rose by 157 per cent, but after losing to Spain in the final, it fell by 50 per cent. SPAIN is a new token launched on 19 June 2026 via an FTO: 3 million tokens at $1 each. ITA is a notable case: Italy did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but its token rose by 120 per cent in the spring of 2026 on the back of anticipation surrounding the qualifying matches, before giving up almost all of that gain – a clear example of how the price of a fan token does not always correlate with sporting results.

Esports. OG is the first esports fan token and one of the largest in the Chiliz ecosystem: its current market capitalisation is around 14millionatapriceof~2.85. At its peak in September 2025, the token reached $24.78 with a market capitalisation exceeding $100 million, but has since fallen by 88 per cent. In September 2025, Chiliz Group acquired a 51 per cent stake in OG Esports. The OG.Dexsport team competes in CS2 – this represents a direct partnership between the esports fan token and the Dexsport platform, acting as a bridge between the Chiliz ecosystem and Web3 iGaming.

On-chain trading and liquidity: Kayen Protocol

Before the launch of Kayen Protocol, fan token trading took place mainly on centralised exchanges – Binance, Bybit and Paribu. There was no on-chain infrastructure for full-fledged DEX trading: fan tokens resided on the Chiliz Chain, but liquidity was concentrated on CEXs.

Kayen Protocol is a community-driven DEX, specifically built for the Chiliz Chain and launched in August 2024. By 2026, its metrics stand as follows: TVL in excess of $10 million, over 80 fan tokens available for trading, monthly trading volume of around $40 million, and more than 10,000 active users per month. The trading fee is 0.3 per cent, and the governance token is $PEPPER.

Kayen’s functionality goes beyond a simple swap: it includes cross-chain bridges, token wrapping and unwrapping, liquidity pools, a launchpad for new projects, and an RWA NFT marketplace. This means that any user can become a liquidity provider – for example, by adding a PSG/CHZ pair to a pool and earning fees from every transaction. Previously, such an opportunity simply did not exist for fan tokens.

Dexsport: where fan tokens meet betting and predictions

Dexsport is a Web3 iGaming platform combining a sportsbook, a casino and prediction markets. The latter were launched in 2026 as the platform’s third line of business. The platform supports over 110 cryptocurrencies and 29 blockchain networks, including the Chiliz Chain. In March 2026, Chiliz and Dexsport held a joint X Spaces event to discuss integration.

It is important to draw a clear distinction here. A fan token is a tradable digital asset linked to a sports organisation and its fan ecosystem. A prediction market involves betting on the outcome of a specific event with a definable result (yes/no, match winner, asset price by a certain date). These are different products with different mechanics.

The price of a fan token is not a reliable predictor of sporting results. A PSG token may rise due to general bullish sentiment in the crypto market, a listing on a new exchange or hype surrounding a transfer – even if the team loses. Conversely, a sporting victory does not guarantee a price increase. There is an overlap between these worlds, but it is not direct: a fan who holds a PSG fan token may simultaneously follow matches and prediction markets on Dexsport – but these are two separate activities with different logic.

The OG.Dexsport partnership in CS2 is a concrete example of a bridge between the Chiliz ecosystem and the betting platform. Esports fan tokens and sports prediction markets exist in parallel, and Dexsport is one of the platforms where this intersection becomes visible. On the platform, users can follow events related to clubs whose fan tokens are traded on the Chiliz Chain and participate in prediction markets for these events – but without a direct link to the price of the tokens themselves.

SportFi: the ecosystem is taking shape

Chiliz Vision 2030 is a strategy for the ecosystem’s development up to 2030, built on three pillars.

Pillar 1 – Fan Tokens as on-chain assets. Migration to decimal contracts, the ‘Burn to Glory’ mechanism (burning tokens when a team wins), and on-chain expansion to Solana and Base via LayerZero. Over 70 tokens are now available outside the Chiliz Chain, with 10 per cent of revenue from all chains going towards the buyback and burning of CHZ.

Pillar 2 – Chiliz Chain as a financial layer. DeFi integrations, staking, lending secured by fan tokens, prediction markets. It is important here to distinguish between what is available today and what is planned. Currently available: DEX trading via Kayen, liquidity pools, cross-chain bridges, voting in polls via Socios. Under development or hypothetical: fan tokens as collateral in lending protocols, built-in prediction markets on the Chiliz Chain, derivatives based on fan tokens.

Pillar 3 – Sports RWAs. Tokenisation of club revenues, media rights and minority shareholdings. This area is outlined in the strategy, but its practical implementation is planned via Securitize. The first tokenised issuances are planned for the EU market, though exact dates have not yet been announced. Equity Tokens are the instrument specific to this pillar, and they differ fundamentally from Fan Tokens.

The term ‘SportFi’ unites all three pillars into a single concept: sports assets traded on the blockchain with DeFi infrastructure. The ecosystem is still at an early stage – but the transition from a ‘voting token’ to a ‘token with liquidity, pools and cross-chain accessibility’ has already taken place.

Market events and fan tokens: correlation without causation

The 2026 World Cup proved to be the biggest stress test for national team fan tokens. The ‘Burn to Glory’ mechanism worked as follows: a team’s victory → burning of tokens from the treasury (ranging from 1 per cent for a group stage win to 10 per cent for a final victory). Over 8 million tokens were burned during the tournament.

ARG provided the most dramatic moment: following their semi-final victory over England, the token surged by 157 per cent within minutes, with daily trading volume reaching $23 million. SPAIN accounted for the tournament’s largest single burn – 1,161,234 tokens following the quarter-final. Spain went on to win the final on 19 July.

However, these figures require some qualification. The price surges were short-lived – the gains were reversed within hours. The overall upward trend began six months before the tournament; in other words, it was anticipatory rather than reactive. A direct cause-and-effect relationship between a specific match and the token’s price has not been confirmed: there is a correlation, but there is insufficient data to draw a causal conclusion.

The ITA case serves as a counterexample: Italy failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, yet its token rose by 120 per cent. If sporting results directly determined the price, this would not have happened. The price of a fan token depends on a multitude of factors – liquidity, market sentiment, news about listings, general crypto market cycles – and sporting results are just one of them.

CHZ Buyback & Burn

The CHZ burn mechanism operates across the entire ecosystem. 10 per cent of revenue from fan tokens is allocated to the buyback and burning of the Chiliz Chain’s native token. In September 2026, 13.4 million CHZ, worth approximately $182,000, were burned. With the off-chain expansion, this mechanism has been extended to all chains: 10 per cent of revenue from Solana and Base is also allocated to burning. The cumulative volume of tokens burned under the Chiliz 2030 strategy has exceeded 62.5 million tokens.

FAQ

Are fan tokens club shares?

No. Fan Tokens are utility tokens that grant the right to vote in club polls and access VIP experiences. They do not confer any equity stake, dividends or voting rights in club management. Tokenised equity stakes in clubs are a separate product – Equity Tokens – which Socios plans to issue via Securitize. The first tokenised offerings have been announced for the EU market, though exact dates have not yet been specified.

Can you predict the outcome of a match based on the price of a fan token?

No. The price of a fan token depends on a multitude of factors – liquidity, market sentiment, listings and general crypto market cycles. Sporting results are just one of them. Italy failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but its token rose by 120 per cent.

Where can you trade fan tokens on the Chiliz Chain?

The main DEX is Kayen Protocol: over 80 fan tokens, a TVL of over $10 million, and a 0.3% fee. Fan tokens are also traded on centralised exchanges: Binance, Bybit and Paribu. Selected Fan Tokens are also available on Solana and Base following the 2026 omnichain expansion via LayerZero.

What is the migration to decimal contracts?

The transition of fan tokens from 0 decimal places to the 18-digit CAP-20 standard. Previously, the minimum unit was one token. Now, fractional shares can be traded, making the tokens compatible with DEXs and DeFi protocols.

How do fan tokens differ from prediction markets on Dexsport?

A fan token is a tradable asset linked to a sports organisation. A prediction market is a bet on the outcome of a specific event. These are different products. You can hold a PSG fan token and simultaneously place bets on PSG matches on Dexsport, but these are two separate actions.

What is SportFi?

SportFi is a concept that combines sports assets traded on the blockchain with DeFi infrastructure: DEX trading, liquidity pools, cross-chain transfers and voting. Chiliz Vision 2030 outlines three areas of focus: on-chain fan tokens, the financial layer and sports RWAs.
