What is MMR in Dota 2?

The Dota 2 rating system allows players to gauge their skill level and monitor progress, influencing match selection to ensure balanced teams.

What is MMR in Dota 2?

MMR (Matchmaking Rating) is a numerical system introduced in Dota 2 in 2013 to assess participants' gameplay skills. It forms the basis for team composition in ranked matches. In November 2017, MMR was divided into solo and group ratings. MMR changes based on match outcomes; wins increase it while losses decrease it. Typically, single mode MMR changes by 30 points per win/loss and group mode by 20 points. As of 2023, MMR ranges from 1 to 13,000, with most players falling between 2000 to 5000.

Dota 2 Ranks and Medals:

Dota 2 features eight ranks, each indicating player skill levels with stars from 1 to 5:
- Herald: 1 - 769 MMR
- Guardian: 770 - 1539 MMR
- Crusader: 1540 - 2309 MMR
- Archon: 2310 - 3079 MMR
- Legend: 3080 - 3849 MMR
- Ancient: 3850 - 4619 MMR
- Divine: 4620 - 5620 MMR
- Immortal: 5620+ MMR

Dota 2 Ranking Distribution:

The majority of Dota 2 players fall within the middle ranks. The Archon rank is the most prevalent, comprising 22.75% of players, while Immortal is the rarest at 1.91%.

The chart illustrates the seasonal spread of MMR among various ranks. Archon emerges as the most prevalent rank in 2023, constituting 22.75% of the overall player community. Conversely, Immortal stands as the least frequent rank, representing merely 1.91%.

New ranking system after patch 7.33:

Post-patch 7.33, Dota 2 shifted from the ELO to the Glicko system, considering factors like activity level and match predictability. 'Titan' rank matchmaking saw alterations, introducing captains for balanced team selection and a confidence rating parameter.

What is rank confidence in Dota 2?

Ranking confidence is the system's evaluation of a player's match proficiency based on experience and outcomes. More ranked matches lead to an accurate skill level determination.

What is calibration?

Calibration assesses each player's skill level at the start of every season. Players play ten recalibration matches to establish their new MMR, with gains/losses based on performance. Inactivity prompts automatic recalibration to maintain fairness.
